Yerevan, November 21 /Mediamax/. Today, Chairman of the Central Bank (CB) of Armenia Tigran Sarkisian congratulated the citizens of Armenia with the 13th anniversary of implementation of the national currency – dram.

Mediamax reports that speaking today at the “Friday” club, Tigran Sarkisian stated that Armenian was one of the last countries among the CIS states to decide to implement a national currency, and that “was a difficult, but undoubtedly a right decision”. At the same time, the CB Chairman stated, the decision on implementation of a national currency was belated. According to Sarkisian, if the Armenian dram was implemented earlier, it would be possible to avoid hyperinflation.

Board Chairman of “Armimpexbank” Levon Barkhudarian, who occupied the position of the Finance Minister of Armenia 1993-1997, stated that 1993 was not the best time to implement the national currency, taking into consideration the fact that the country practically had no financial reserves. At the same time, the Ex-Minister stated, the Armenian dram played a role of no small importance in the process of statehood establishment.
