Visa and Mastercard international payment systems prepare for the launch of card-to-card transfer service in Russia, which requires only submitting the number of the given recipient.

Referring to its own resources, Vedomosti writes that every system creates its own service, but the essence is the same: the bank-issuer of the card sends the client’s phone number and the relevant card number to a special reserve.

For making transfers the sender simply needs to submit the phone number of the recipient, and the system will substitute the card number. The reserve of Visa and Mastercard receives phone numbers with cards of any payment system.

“Today a number of banks offer their clients transfers via phone number, and the largest service by the number of users is Sberbank online. Nonetheless, such transactions are possible only between clients of the same bank, while Visa and Mastercard will give the opportunity to make transfers between the cards of all banks, using the service.

Mir payment system plans to launch similar service in autumn,” the edition writes.
