Central Depository of Armenia

Central Depository of Armenia (CDA) plays a key role in the Armenian securities market providing the services of centralized securities depository, registry keeping, as well as clearing and settlement of securities buying and selling transactions. CDA currently serves more than 800 Armenian companies and over 180,000 private and legal persons have accounts with the CDA.

Prior to the establishment of the CDA no centralized registry system existed in Armenia. Based on the Government decree of 10 January, 1996 the "National Centralized Register" state-owned enterprise was established. In April 1999 it was reorganized into the "Central Depository of Armenia" cjsc, which started to carry out centralized depository and custodian operations. In August 2000, the RA Law "On Securities Market Regulation” came into effect. Under this Law, the exclusive right of the centralized principal custodian, securities registrar and clearing/settlement functions throughout the Republic of Armenia was delegated to the "Central Depository of Armenia" self-regulatory organization. In October 2007, following the adoption of the new Law of the Republic of Armenia "On Securities Market”, the CDA was reorganised into an open joint stock company. Since early 2008, after the merger of NASDAQ and OMX exchange operators, CDA, as well as the Armenian Stock Exchange, has become a company fully owned by NASDAQ OMX Group Inc.
